The Faldo Series
CONGRATULATIONS JOSH THOMPSON, FALDO SERIES WINNER AT BROCKETT HALL GOLF CLUB.
On Monday 8th April Josh played in the first round of the 54-hole 3-day WAGR and EGR event in the Faldo Series at Brockett Hall on the Palmerston Course.
The weather was miserable for the three days with 50-60 mph gusts and heavy rain. It was a strong field of 160 players with the top 60% to make the cut after 36 holes. Round one saw him battle the elements to finish T33 with 4 over par. He was disappointed but remained positive for the second round.
He had an early start the following day and the weather was absolutely brutal. Conditions like he had never experienced before in a tournament. He played some incredible golf with a three under finish, which was the lowest score of the day, to climb the leaderboard to T3.
However, he was five shots back from the leader going into the final day.
The rain remained and the wind continued to batter the course. He looked at the scores on his walk down the par five 18th hole and realised he was in for a chance to potentially secure a playoff with the leader. His approach shot was short of the target and he had to go up and down for a par. He drained a 15-foot par putt to finish 1 over for the day.
The final group came in and Josh found out that there wasn’t going to be a playoff as he’d won the event by one shot to include the overall, the U21s and the U16s.
The winner receives an invite to the Faldo Series Grand Final at Al Ain in the UAE which he is really excited about.
Josh is very happy to have two back-to-back wins at the start of the season and is climbing the WAGR system.
