Bringing golf and tennis into local primary schools
The Wentworth Golf & Tennis Foundation works with local primary schools to introduce young people to golf and tennis, often for the first time.
Our School Outreach Programmes combine professional coaching with opportunities to develop skills both on and off the course and court, at no cost to participating schools.
School Outreach
Through our Golf and Tennis Outreach Programmes, qualified PGA and LTA coaches work with local primary schools to introduce pupils to the sports in a familiar school environment.
Alongside developing sporting skills, the programmes encourage qualities including focus, confidence, teamwork and resilience.
All Foundation coaches have enhanced DBS checks and safeguarding training.
Golf Outreach Programme
12 weeks | One hour a week | After school
Our Golf Outreach Programme introduces pupils to the fundamentals of golf through a structured 12-week after-school programme.
Delivered by qualified PGA coaches, sessions combine golf with five key life skills: coordination, timeliness, focus, preparation and helpfulness.
The Foundation provides the equipment and programme resources, including Golfway equipment through our partnership with Masters27 Golfway.
A member of school staff takes part in the sessions alongside the coach. Through a train-the-trainer approach, staff are given the knowledge and resources to continue running the after-school golf club once the initial programme has finished. This reflects the programme agreement, which includes staff training and continued school-led sessions.
For children keen to continue playing, the Foundation signposts opportunities through junior programmes at other local golf clubs and facilities.
Tennis Outreach Programme
Summer | 90-minute taster session
Our Tennis Outreach Programme introduces Year 3 pupils to tennis through 90-minute taster sessions delivered at local primary schools during the summer.
Led by qualified LTA coaches, the sessions give pupils the opportunity to experience tennis and begin developing their skills.
Children who are keen to continue, or who demonstrate potential, may be invited to a trial at Wentworth Club in September. Around eight children are selected each year to join a two-year programme of group lessons.
At the end of the programme, those who continue to show progress may have the opportunity to continue their development as senior tennis scholars.
