We are incredibly proud to share that Wentworth Foundation golf scholar Amelia Van De Mortel was selected as one of just 41 girls to take part in a truly historic event; the first ever LPGA Leadership Academy to be held outside of the United States, delivered by the Golf Foundation in partnership with the LPGA Foundation at The Belfry.
The two-day academy brought together young female golfers from across England aged between 12 and 17, using golf as a platform to build confidence, develop leadership skills and create meaningful connections with like-minded peers. Sessions explored themes including communication, resilience, goal setting and finding your voice; with practical tools like the BLAB technique (Body, Language, Appreciation and Breathe) and power poses giving participants skills they can carry into every area of life.
One of the highlights of the academy was an appearance from world number four and Golf Foundation ambassador Charley Hull, who joined a special panel to share her own experiences of life in professional golf and how to cope with pressure and make the most of opportunities both on and off the course.
Amelia told us: “It was such an incredible and amazing experience. I definitely feel like I took away so much and will use the skills I learned throughout life.”
The results have already spoken for themselves on the course; Amelia has since finished second and third in her first two competitions at Wentworth Club. That is the Foundation’s mission in action: Breaking Barriers, Building Champions, Living the Legacy.
